It is not getting the attention it deserves from a policy standpoint from either side of the aisle. But I understand and appreciate what you’re getting at.
Democrats have been paying attention. John Kerry, Diane Feinstein, Edward Markey and Jim Moran have all introduced comprehensive bills over the past 10-20 years to improve the testing, monitoring and regulation of endocrine disruptors.
Even Susan Collins is “concerned” about the lack of adequate regulations. She’s worked with Feinstein on legislation to reduce the risk of EDCs in personal care products. Unfortunately the rest of the Republicans don’t seem to care. So I’d say one way to address the problem is to elect more Democrats to Congress, especially the crazy ones that want to improve public health and environmental laws.
Biden also has an opportunity to move the ball forward. He can put someone in charge of EPA’s chemical safety program that will enforce the modest rules that are already on the books for screening and testing pesticides and other widespread chemical substances for endocrine-disrupting effects. Someone who will stand up to the chemical industry lawyers and lobbyists.
