These are some of the people who answered the call to protect the Capitol, the people who passed some type of vetting process, the people who were used to provide for nice photo-ops.
Within 24 hours, relegated to a parking garage with 1 bathroom for 5000 troops.

This unfortunate situation was caused by the Capitol Police who don't report to the President.  Who knew?

Hope this Guardsman never has to take part in combat or a potential conflict.   There's a pretty good chance that standing around and being ignored will be part of the experience. 

Here are a few of the headlines I’ve seen regarding the Capitol Police preparations (or lack thereof) for the riot at the Capitol: 
•   Police Command Structure Crumbled Fast During Capitol Riot
•   FBI Warned Capitol Police Before Trump Rally
•   Capitol Police Denied Backup Two Days Before Riot
•   Pentagon Took Hours to Authorize National Guard
•   Did Capitol Rioters Have Hidden Help?

There are disconnects all over the place, and I can only infer there is some industrial-strength deceit taking place.  Looks like we have the candidates for blame being extraordinary incompetence or malicious informed neglect.
