Again. The NY contract was for $40 million for 2 years. NY guaranteed him $30 million, for some odd reason, but that is $20 million guaranteed for this year and $10 million guaranteed for next year whether he lasts more than a year in NY or not.
Pittsburgh also gave him a 2 year contract but only guaranteed the 1st year, money.
You can say that Pittsburgh wanted Fields to stay and offered him a 2 year contract but Pittsburgh also wasn't going to pony up any guaranteed money other than what they guaranteed for this year. Pittsburgh obviously wanted to be able to cut bait if they had better qb options for next year.

Never argued otherwise. If NY is unhappy with how it goes this year, I suspect they will cut bait. Regardless, both were “two year deals.” One just offered more money.

Now did Pittsburgh offer him the job thinking they were getting prime Steve Young? Of course not. But if they thought “he sucked,” they wouldn’t have offered him anything. Let alone 30 million dollars.

Russ wanted big money. The Steeler said forget you and moved on. He then took whatever low ball offer was out there since no one else was interested after that.
