Sounds simple enough, huh?!

Simple enough for both Dem and GOP political consultants to understand. Simple enough for politicians like Jim Edgar, Judy Baar Topinka and even Bruce Rauner (first race) to understand.

I’d be ok with tweeking the electoral college, and I “created” a plan to do that in a college class.

Proportional voting like Maine and one other.

Instead of winner takes all, statewide winner gets 2 at-large electors. Each house congressional district elector is awarded by who won the district.

I don't want to move. I like where I live. I'm just saying that under the current system my vote for president is meaningless. That's all.

I think I get it.  This discussion reminds me of what my mom (moderate left) would tell my dad (staunch Republican) every four years:  "I'm going to cancel your vote."

I’m not crazy about the idea of gifting every election to coastal folks multiple generations removed from any kind of lifestyle resembling that of middle America. I’m sure people would make adjustments though.

If you look at the last 16 years, if we get rid of the electoral college, then *everyone's* vote will be meaningless.

That's worse than the current electoral college. The current electoral college has some distributions that end up as a de facto gerrymander, but house districts in many states are explicitly gerrymandered.

Should we gift every election to the handful of people living in decaying rural areas of middle america, who are far removed from any kind of lifestyle resembling that of people on the coast? (really - not the coast. There is a large amount of Coastline in South Carolina, and not much coastline in Chicago and it's suburbs).

Whatever - you seem to be proposing that a small set of people should set the rules, not the majority.

If there are more "coastal folks" than "middle Americans" - then it's not a "gift". It's Democracy. One person, one vote. Acreage doesn't vote.

Progressive tears over the Electoral College are the saltiest. Sorry you do not back candidates who can win elections based on the ground rules that have existed since 1789.

Name the current President. Show your work.

You did not back him. You barely tolerated him, like Tempo.
