Ty can't  get low enough. On the ball it doesn't matter so much. But when your getting screened off-ball, being low is crucial to getting through a screen.   Trent Frazier, for example,  was elite in that aspect.

Upon further review, there were no road wins in the Big10 yesterday.

On the bright side,  Dainja made both of his free shots.

Shit happens on the road. We gave up 24 points in last six minutes.
Think about that for a minute. And MSU actually missed a bunch of free throws during that time.
I think all four of road games left could be tough.

We will bounce back. Still a work in progress.
In retrospect, have to agree Harris probably could be helping for 8-10 mpg on D to change the flow.

That said, I think we still get 13 or maybe even 14 wins. We are looking at a solid 4 seed unless we upset Purdue at home or BTT to sneak into a 3, or conversely a 5/6 if we tank and finish 12-8.
Assuming we are a 3,4,5, or 6 seed at worse we will still have to play very well in any R32 game to get through.
We are a good team, but not dominate good at this point unless something changes.

I don't worry much about our win totals or seed per se.
Fix the issues that appear to be fairly obvious and wins and the seed take care of themselves.

We saw the same problem but with a different issue last year. We jacked up poorly timed 3s and 3s by the wrong people while shooting too many 3s poorly. Those issues were readily apparent also.

Underwood's teams win on effort more so than ability.
When we were playing well, our passes were quick, nobody held the ball and there was movement. Now we're looking for iso plays and we're not quick enough to rely on that

I think that the effort thing is true to a point, but the teams he has had here have hit their limits because of skill issues.
No true lead guard.
Spotty shooting and half court offense.

I will not even get into the in game coaching rigidity.

We are an experienced team with talent missing a couple pieces.

Hawkins and TSj and Domask and Guerrier and Rodgers playing some of best ball in their careers.

The sum should be greater than the parts at some point.

We will see.

I don't think we have the foot speed to guard out front against quick guards.
Nonetheless, we better get back to playing some defense.
I was surprised that BU went to a zone for a MS possession late in the 1st half with Hawkins on the floor with 2 fouls. Next possession,  back to man d.
They're getting burned so badly recently with drives into the lane in man to man. Points in the paint and 3 point plays killing them. I made a comment a couple weeks ago as to why BU can't play zone to change things. 2-1-2 could stop this large amount of points in the paint. Not saying play zone the whole game, just change things up. Sure didn't kill Boeheim at Syracuse, who had a fairly decent amount of wins playing a 2-3 zone.
Rodgers should not have been sitting that 2nd half. Not a shooter by any means,  but he can make things happen. Hustles, rebounds, he can get points on drives. There is just way too much standing around the 3 line.
BU needs to wake up. Lost some games that shouldn't have been lost, going back a few years.

I could be wrong, but I think we played zone two possessions and they scored both times. One on a wide open midrange, and one on an easy dump down.
Same issue they have with playing man- just not moving their feet like they were earlier in year.

I am no Rodgers fan, but agree he should have been in there down the stretch. He plays hard and gets Offensive boards and is physical defender.
It was tied with 3 minutes to go. A couple plays can make the difference. We are going to have about 6 or 7 games like that rest of year.
We have to find the guys who can make the plays at end game.

I believe you are correct on zone #'s, starting to feel like the players as hard as they are switching/etc, seem to depend on CoHawk and his defensive abilities more than staying in front of a man. To many times, yesterday, our defender could have easily backed off, stayed in front, raised arms and MADE the MSU team shoot outside. Their guards wanted and DID penetrate all game.

Rodgers is the glue and the energy for this team. We have 3 proven night in and night out scorers. We should not have depend on Goode/Harmon so much at crunch time, we need the play or Rodgers and dare I say Dain a little as well.
"We have a great bunch of outside shooters. Unfortunately, all our games are played indoors."

I didn't mean to imply that we don't have talent when I said Underwood's teams win on effort not talent.
We don't have the ability to run much iso, but when we rely on iso everyone seems to stand around waiting for the ball to see if they can break their man down. Earlier in the year we would have several successive passes that were quick and the motion helped guys get open for clean shots.
Iso generally gets us dribbling into trouble and looking for a pass to a guy who isn't moving.

Guerrier could use a double double or 2 to get back to his old self.

Michigan state did a good job pressuring the ball and taking us out of our rhythm in the half court. I think that’s part of why we didn’t see consistently good ball movement, but there certainly were flashes.

Agree with a take I saw this morning on TOS. This team doesn’t look like they’re having fun. That wasn’t the case earlier in the season.

Michigan State played like a team that was playing for their lives. The home court advantage was worth at least 5-7 points yesterday and the zebras another few. Brad coached tight, the players played tight.

Another positive is that Shannon is getting closer to what he was pre-suspension. Just needs to scale back the three attempts. He's capable of going on a heater but he still can't be taking 9-10 threes a game. Let him do what he does best which is get down hill attacking the rim and eat at the line when he's fouled.
