They're a good defense. They have not been that good a defense lately. They got Ward back recently (today, maybe?) and that probably helps quite a bit.
By scoring, they're a middle of the pack defense (14), giving up 20.9 PPG coming into today.
They were giving up 15.4 PPG coming after 5 games, and they've given up 24.375 points per game in the last 8 coming into today. That last 8 number includes a shutout against Arizona but also 38 to the Colts, 29 to the Broncos, 36 to the Rams, and 27 to the Jaguars.
They're definitely talented, but they haven't really been shutting teams down or anything. The Bears offense just didn't look good (including the coaching, running game, receivers, and yes - quarterback). At some point I think Fields deserves blame for his part of that, even if it isn't all his fault by any means.
